Corona does not make everyday life easy for you, but also for us. We are doing everything we can to help you medically in every situation, even in these difficult times. Please help us with this! According to the new Corona regulation of the country, we ask you to wear only a FFP2 mask in our practice rooms from now on. This means that a medical mouth-nose protection (medical mask/OP mask) is no longer sufficient. Persons under 6 years of age continue to be exempt from the mask requirement. At the age of 6 - 17 years a surgical mask is also sufficient. Please bring the appropriate masks to the practice yourself. Thank you for your support.

Most men do not give their health a high priority – at most when they are old or when there is a serious problem. The result? Men’s health is in crisis. On average, men die 3 years earlier than women for reasons which are largely preventable. Men deserve better in terms of their health, but this won’t happen unless we change something. We must stop men dying too young.

The MOVEMBER Foundation is leading a change in the way men look at their health and get support. MOVEMBER helps men think about their health, talk openly about problems and get better treatment when life becomes difficult. The fifth edition of our practice newspaper is now available in the waiting room and this time, is taking a look at psychosomatic illnesses. This is a subject which affects urology, too. Unresolved issues and occupational stress impact the nervous system, potentially causing, among other things pain in the urogenital area and sexual dysfunction. A new apprentice joined us in September - a warm welcome to you, Alina! Over the past few months, you have demonstrated a real interest in the profession of qualified medical assistant (Medizinische Fachangestellte or MFA) and shown that you have all the qualities required to succeed at it. We are delighted to be supporting you as you complete your training and to have you at the practice.

In our recent practice newsletter, apprentice Raffaella Armiento interviewed Michael Stich by e-mail. The former tennis player told her about his charitable foundation and his involvement in reducing the social isolation of children and families affected by HIV and AIDS and making their lives easier. A condom may tear or slip off – or is just forgotten. If a partner of either sex is HIV-positive, the infection may be transmitted. PEP (= post­-exposure prophylaxis) should be started as soon as possible. HIV drugs need to be administered after no more than 48 hours and taken for 4 weeks. The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Physicians has awarded Dr. med. Michael Haug and Dr. med. Heinz Peter Schimers the additional qualification “Primary psychosomatic care” after they both completed an 80-hour training course. The course covered the fundamental theoretical concepts of psychosomatic medicine, as well as important issues surrounding medical consultations with psychosomatic patients.

The current issue of the practice newspaper deals with sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Bacteria, viruses and parasites are all transmitted during sexual intercourse. The number of new infections is increasing. It is perfectly normal for us, as doctors, to treat sexually transmitted infections - but there is no need to pick up an infection at all. In January, we celebrated 30 years' service by our Practice Manager, Sandra Wolf. Almost all our patients know her, given that she’s been in our practice (or its predecessor) for 30 years - and she’s nowhere near retirement yet! Anyway, Sandra Wolf is IRREPLACEABLE. Everyone appreciates her kind, professional manner. We celebrated Sandra’s milestone with prosecco, cake, balloons, flowers, a speech and beautifully illustrated portraits by Lea Dohle. It was a lovely party. Thank you, Sandra, for everything. We look forward to a great many more years together - and a lot more parties ...
