Preventive medicine

An important component of today’s medicine is prevention. Experience shows that symptoms only occur once a disease is advanced. The aim of preventive checks is to detect diseases at an early stage. Sensible early detection measures in male urology are currently recommended for prostate cancer and for tumours of the kidney, bladder and testicles.

If you have statutory German health insurance, you are entitled to the following preventive checks:
Early detection of cancer of the genitalia annually from the age of 45
Early detection of bowel cancer annually from the age of 50 (up to 54)
Endoscopy of the bowel from the age of 55 (twice at an interval of 10 years)

Paediatric urology

Diagnostics, consulting, treatment and day surgery for childhood urological diseases.

  • Bedwetting, day or night (enuresis)
  • Tight foreskin (phimosis)
  • Circumcision
  • Inguinal testis in children
  • Undescended testicle
  • Hydrocele
  • Deformed urinary tract

Consultations for young males

Consultations for young males were set up by the professional associations for urologists in collaboration with the German Society for Health Promotion [Gesellschaft zur Gesundheitsförderung] to promote the health of young people. Special consultations for young males with a urologist can be accessed under statutory health insurance to answer questions about physical development, sexuality and typical urological diseases.

Having problems starting a family

In the case of an unfulfilled desire to have children, both the man and the woman should always be examined. The man usually consults a doctor of urology or andrology. The cause of fertility problems usually has biological reasons and lies in approximately equal parts with the man and the woman. Often, male infertility only comes to light through a semen sample. After a detailed anamnesis interview, the following fertility examinations take place:

  • palpation of testicles, epididymis, prostate and seminal glands
  • if required, an ultrasound examination is carried out on the genitalia, prostate and urinary tract
  • production of a spermogram
  • hormone examinations and genetic tests depending on findings

Andrology

Andrology is a specialism in medicine. This field essentially covers male reproductive functions and disorders. The urologist looks at hormone status, loss of fertility and a drop in sexual potency and libido.

INDIVIDUAL HEALTH SERVICES

  • Determination of PSA (blood test)
  • Determination of testosterone (hormone status)
  • Determination of SHBG hormone (hormone status)
  • TSH blood test for the detection of thyroid disorders

Individual Health Services

In terms of the law, health insurance companies ensure adequate treatment. In addition, we offer meaningful examinations for men's health. Urological preventive care for women has not been included in the range of services offered by the statutory health insurance funds up to now. Here, too, sensible additional urological services can be chosen as a private service.

These optional services will not be reimbursed by the statutory health insurance companies. These additional services will be invoiced in line with the ordinance governing doctors’ fees in Germany [Gebührenordnung für Ärzte – GOÄ]. We will be pleased to provide information for you and you can take time to make your decision.

Day surgery

As a modern urological practice, we offer the complete range of urological services. Outpatient procedures are performed in our practice or at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart.

  • Hydrocele
  • Spermatocele
  • Varicocele
  • Urethrotomy
  • Removal of tissue from the prostate (biopsy)
  • Positioning and replacement of ureteral stents (DJ catheters, stents and ureteral catheters)
  • Circumcision
  • Vasectomy
  • Inguinal testis in children

In-patient surgery

Since 2007, we have been working together with the Marienhospital in Stuttgart. All operations on the kidney, bladder, prostate and external genitalia are performed there in accordance with national and international guidelines. Many years of experience, the latest technology and the good teamwork with the Marienhospital guarantee our patients all-round urological care.

Endoscopic surgery for prostate cancer (TUR-P)
A gentle procedure to remove tissue from the prostate through the urethra without an abdominal incision.

Endoscopic bladder surgery (TUR-B)
Minimally-invasive surgery involving removal of bladder tumours through the urethra.

Photodynamic diagnostics (PDD)
To allow the detection of very shallow bladder tumours, barely detectable with the naked eye but still dangerous, we pass a substance into the bladder before the planned TUR-B procedure which accumulates in suspected areas of tumour. The bladder is then subjected to endoscopic examination under blue light, which causes the suspected areas of tumour to fluoresce, facilitating extremely high-precision surgery.

Endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of stones
Endoscopic crushing and removal of kidney stones and urinary calculus in the bladder, ureter and urethra. Among other equipment, we can use a laser to treat stones.

Injection of botox into the bladder and prostate
In a minor day procedure, small quantities of the botulinum toxin are injected endoscopically into the muscles of the bladder or into the prostate via the urethra; this successfully treats irritating, painful conditions such as overactive bladder or prostate syndrome.

Radical surgery in the case of prostate cancer, testicular carcinoma or carcinoma of the kidney

Partial removal of the kidney
As tumours of the kidney are often detected by chance during an ultrasound examination or MRI or CT scan these days, it is frequently possible to remove just the tumour. The rest of the kidney is preserved.

Surgery days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Follow-up care

After a tumour has been diagnosed and treated, individual follow-up care is required to suit the disease and the patient in question. We deliver this care in our practice – based on national and international guidelines.

Consulting services

As well as surgery, we also offer consulting services to patients at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart. In other words, we can treat patients who are in the Marienhospital for medical reasons, and who also have acute urological problems, while they are in hospital.
